The restructure of New South Wales health services amalgamated 17 Area Health Services into eight larger Areas. The Boards of the previous Area Health Services were dissolved and Area Health Advisory Councils have been established, under the Health Services Act 1997, to give doctors, nurses, allied health workers and local communities more say in how local health services are provided.
The Area Health Advisory Council will advise the Chief Executive and will strengthen clinical and community involvement in the planning and delivery of local health services.
