Help for Anxiety and Depression

In Australia one in five people will experience major depression or anxiety at some time in their life.

While both are common problems for a significant proportion of the population, there is now good evidence that effective treatment exists and can greatly improve patients' symptoms and quality of life.

However, knowing where to get the right help can be a problem for many people.

Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Mental Health Service regularly offers free group programs on how to manage anxiety and depression.

"The program provides a forum for discussion in a safe and confidential environment with others in similar situations," said Carmel Jensen, Occupational Therapist, Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Mental Health Service.

Groups are guided by qualified mental health clinicians who provide support, education and guidance on the treatment of anxiety and depression.

"It is important to remember that anxiety and depression can be big issues and you don’t have to handle it alone - there are treatments and assistance available," said Carmel.

The next 10 week program begins in March at Galston Community Health Centre on Thursdays between 10.30 am -12 noon.

The programs will be run at other community health centres in Hornsby and Ku-ring-gai throughout the year. Additionally, there are group programs available to support partners, family members and carers. To make a booking or if you have any questions about the programs please call Carmel on 94871699.
