Welcome to the Northern Beaches Health Service Redevelopment and new Northern Beaches Hospital Home PageLast updated 7 May 2008 What's new? May 2008: Northern Sydney Central Coast Area Health Service has reached agreement with the NSW Health Department and Health Infrastructure on the next steps for the redevelopment of health services on the Northern Beaches. Initial tasks include the development this year of a Project Definition Plan. The Project Definition Plan will define the spaces required to accommodate the services to be provided at the hospital and complementary health care sites. It will aim to meet all the building and design standards necessary for a health service, consistent with the Health Service Plan completed last year and with statewide planning guidelines. The plan will be undertaken in consultation with staff and community and other relevant stakeholders. Other early tasks associated with the proposed development will include: - Planning for the regeneration in another area of any forest that will need to be removed from the Frenchs Forest site to accommodate the new hospital facilities ("biobanking");
- Completing the acquisition of the remaining lands for the proposed hospital site;
- Preparing an application and securing approval from the NSW Department of Planning to proceed with the project (Section 3A approval);
- Considering the requirements around associated road works, including the need for an upgrade of the intersection of Warringah Rd and Forest Way and flood mitigation works on the Wakehurst Parkway.
Northern Sydney Central Coast Area Health Service will be a partner in the project, along with the NSW Health Department, Health Infrastructure (the new body responsible for the delivery of major NSW Health infrastructure projects) and the NSW Treasury. The next steps will include establishing committees and working groups that can contribute to the planning and design of the new facilities required to deliver the care models that were agreed during 2007. This consultation process will include meetings of clinicians and managers, involvement of the local community, and organising visits to other health redevelopment projects. About the projectNorthern Sydney Central Coast Health is committed to providing the best possible health care for the people of the Northern Beaches. The Northern Beaches Health Service Redevelopment will: - Review the current services and recommend better ways of delivering health care to the Northern Beaches community.
- Refocus the way health care is delivered, so that care will be provided in the most appropriate location, depending on the patient's needs. This may be in the patient's home, in a community setting or in hospital.
- Work with community members, carers, patients, nurses, hospital clinicians, general practitioners and other health care staff and service providers to define the best arrangement of services.
- Plan and deliver new facilities and services, including the new Northern Beaches Hospital at Frenchs Forest.
