| It's a very busy time on the construction site at the moment, with demolition of the remaining buildings on the footprint of the new hospital to be completed soon. The excavation works are using 37 trucks at any one time moving excavated materials to the various recycling sites. With more than 200 truck movements a day from the site, traffic control is in place along Herbert St to assist all users and to provide a safe environment. Within the construction site, the new Community Health Building is well advanced and the first major concrete pour for the basement slab of the new Main Hospital Building is on currently schedule for late 2009. The site has a remediation policy to ensure there is maximum possible recycling of site material. All concrete waste is sent to a recycling plant. The general solid waste is sent to a landfill waste depot and the natural soil is used as landfill on other building sites. Construction progress2009, October

The concrete portico and French doors were the last items remaining by February 2009. Unfortunately, the portico was not able to be saved.
