Last updated 22 April 2009 For your safety What's happening NOW What's happening NEXT On the Move... decanting news Car Parking News Some simple things to remember during construction...The building of the new Main Hospital and Community Health Buildings will require long periods of demolition and construction activity on the campus. What you can do... - Your usual path around the hospital may have changed, so for your safety please follow directions from traffic control and site staff if you are walking or driving around the construction site.
- Observe any safety signs.
- Do not attempt to walk across the site or shortcut through construction activity, barriers or traffic control points.
- We will do our best to keep dust to a minimum but if you have an existing respiratory condition, please be aware that there will be increased dust in the air (especially if it's a windy day or the city's air quality is already poor). Take the necessary precautions or speak to your manager if you are concerned.
What we will do: - We will let you know as soon as possible if there are any changes around the site.
- Thiess, our builders (part of the InfraShore consortium) will monitor dust, noise, vibration and construction traffic regularly to ensure that all environmental standards are met. This includes approved watering on the site to reduce dust and regular air quality monitoring.
- Some of our buildings are very old and are expected to include materials which contain asbestos. This will be removed according to strict environmental guidelines to ensure there is no hazard to construction workers or people around the demolition site.
Let your healthcare team know if there is any impact on you or visitors. If we can help improve the situation, we will make every effort to do so. WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW... - Early work in preparation for the construction of the new Main Hospital and Community Health Buildings has begun on site. Site fencing is currently being installed so please take care when walking or driving around the site.
- Local council has approved the removal of some trees on Herbert Street to allow for the installation of safety hoardings to protect pedestrians and local residents. Extensive landscaping to the campus and streetscape will begin when construction is completed.
- Parking on the Royal North Shore Hospital site is currently very limited. If you are able to take public transport, we would appreciate it if you could leave your car at home and use public transport whenever you can.
- Vindin House demolition is now complete.
- Access to Rotary Lodge rooms in Building 10 has changed and is now via Herbert Street only. If this affects you, please check with Patient Enquiries in the main foyer for more information.
WHAT'S HAPPENING NEXT... - The Herbert St tunnel is closing in May 2009. If you use the tunnel for access to the hospital from Herbert St or the station, you will need to use Reserve Road or Westbourne St from May.
- Demolition of buildings 23, 24 and 25 will begin in February 2009.
- Construction of a new covered walkway from Building 1 to Day Surgery is now complete.
