Ryde Hospital was established in 1934 and provides both inpatient and community services. Acute services include emergency, elective surgery, day surgery, maternity, orthopaedics, cardiac and intensive care. Non-acute inpatient services include aged care and rehabilitation, drug and alcohol and mental health. Ryde's community health services include dental, aged care, rehabilitation, diabetes, child, adolescent and family health, mental health, drug and alcohol and health promotion.

Future Directions

• More than $250,000 has been allocated to the diabetes service enabling employment of five new staff members. These funds can deliver an endocrinologist, receptionist, podiatrist, dietitian and diabetes educator in addition to the existing clinical nurse consultant.
• Completion of the $350,000 on-going refurbishments to improving the look and functioning of the Emergency Department.
• Treatment of more low level trauma patients at Ryde Hospital following the installation of the new $1million CT scanner.
• Continuation of the 2003 - 2006 corporate plan. The outlines 30 objectives and associated strategies to help the sector achieve its organisational goals. The plan is a dynamic document, giving Royal North Shore and Ryde Health Service the flexibility to respond to the needs of staff, patients and the community as well as to changes in health care delivery.
