Diabetes can affect both the blood supply and the nerves to your feet. Not everyone with diabetes will have problems with their feet. However, it is a good idea to have your feet checked regularly by a Podiatrist.

The most important daily care is up to you

  1. Inspect your feet daily - look for cuts, blisters etc and always check between your toes

  2. Wash your feet daily - drying carefully between the toes

  3. Do not go barefooted, particularly outdoors

  4. Inspect your shoes daily for foreign objects, nail points, torn linings and rough areas

  5. Cuts, scratches etc should be cleaned with salty water or a mild antiseptic, covered with a sterile dressing and bought to the attention of our Podiatrist.

Please see a Podiatrist for regular treatment if you have corns, callouses, thickened or ingrown nails.

If you have poor circulation or nerve damage (neuropathy), you should have your feet regularly attended to by a Podiatrist. Any problems or potential problems can then be picked up sooner rather than later
