The Academic General Practice Unit has a long history of medical education,
which is primarily focused on University of Sydney students and junior doctors in the Northern Sydney Area. It is with much pride that
we can say that most departments in Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital are in some way involved in the University of Sydney Medical Program.
Who are we?
Academic General Practice Unit, Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Health Service
What do we do?
As part of the Northern Clinical School, Sydney University Medical Program we facilitate programs for students from all four years. The Med 1 students have regular clinical skills sessions, tutorials and mini-electives, which
make up their clinical school day every Wednesday.
Med 2 students have regular clinical skills sessions and tutorials and are based
here every Tuesday.
The Med 3 students are attached to a department/Unit within Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital where
they have a more intensive hands on experience. The Med 4 students part take in a
Community Rotation Term where they are placed with an urban GP for 4 weeks and then a
rural GP for 4 weeks, with teaching days here at Hornsby during this time.
Other Med 4 students undertake rotations in Psychiatry, Paediatrics & Women's Health. It is with much pride that we can say that
most departments in Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital are in some way involved in the Graduate Medical Program.
