The Bernard Curran Rehabilitation Unit offers multi-disciplinary outpatient services to both the elderly, and those with an impairment or disability, who require rehabilitation and assessment. Our aim is to provide information, assessment, treatment and support to people living within the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai area, so that they can live with maximum independence in the community.

Who are we?

We are known as Bernard Curran Rehabilitation Unit or BCRU, an outpatient department of the Rehabilitation & Aged Care Service, at the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital.

What do we do?

We provide services to outpatients who require rehabilitation and assessment. These services include:

  • CLINICS
  • THERAPIES
    • Physiotherapy and Hydrotherapy
    • Adult Occupational Therapy assessment and splinting
    • Paediatric occupational therapy
    • Diversional therapy (eg general activity, woodwork, low vision group, lawn bowls, & focus groups)
    • Speech Pathology ( individual & group therapies)
  • ASSOCIATED THERAPIES
    • Pulmonary Rehabilitation, referrals through Royal Rehabilitation Centre
    • Pulmonary maintenance (“Hornsby Huffers”)
    • Parkinson’s Disease Exercise Group, referrals through Parkinson’s Disease Support Group

How you can access our service

We require a written referral from a General Practitioner or Medical Specialist. Appointments can be made by telephoning 9477 9514. If you have no means of transport to attend appointments here, please contact us, and we can help arrange this for you.

Where you can find us

The unit is located on the ground floor of Palmerston building, on the campus of the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital. Entrance is via gate 6 on Derby Road.

The unit is open from 8.00am - 4.30pm, Monday - Friday

Bernard Curran, benefactor of HKHSThe Bernard Curran Unit is named after one of the major benefactors of Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Health Service and the Rehabilitation & Aged Care Service. Bernard Curran’s family, through the Curran Foundation, continue to provide generous support to further developments within the unit and service at the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital.
