What do we do?

The Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital Maternity Unit provides excellent and comprehensive facilities, services and care for you and your baby. We offer:

  • a new purpose-built maternity facility. In keeping with current practice of Northern Sydney Central Coast Health, we have a combined antenatal, birthing and postnatal service.
  • education for childbirth, postnatal catre and breastfeeding
  • a choice of antenatal care options (Medical and Midwifery-led models of care, GP shared care, and private obstetric care)
  • a modern birthing unit and postnatal support, initially in hospital, with support and transition to home (MSP- Midwifery Support Program). MSP supports mothers in the community and assists with links to early childhood health services
  • specific antenatal care for young and non English speaking women
  • support for breastfeeding for mothers in hospital and in the community
  • Special Care Nursery for babies with higher needs. Hornsby is closely linked to the tertiary hospitals and provides a transfer and support service for babies that need intensive care.

How you can access our service

Referral from a doctor is desirable. You can ring and book an appointment to see a midwife to discuss your care options. To book in, make an antenatal clinic appointment or just have a discussion with a midwife call – 9477 9254 or 9477 9986.

Where you can find us

From 10am on 29 November 2006 we will be on level 2 of a new building (building 50) on the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital Campus, off Palmerston Rd, Hornsby. Take the lifts located just inside the left-hand entrance to the building. When you reach level 2, the antenatal clinics are located to your left as you leave the lift. The birthing unit is located to your right as you leave the lift.

For the safety of our mothers and babies this is a secure area. If you are in labour you should ring before arriving at the hospital. When you arrive use the intercom outside the birthing unit and staff will admit you to the department. Please note that after 10pm access will be via the security controlled Emergency Department. Press the intercom to communicate with staff for access to the building.

What are our hours?

For information you are best to ring during office hours. We provide some maternity outpatient services 6 days per week – including evenings.

Antenatal and gynaecology clinics are conducted at nominated times. However the clinics may run late due to acute problems in Maternity. Please be patient and allow extra time for clinic appointments.

Visiting Hours are 11am – 1pm and 3pm - 8.30pm
