Nursing and Midwifery for Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Health Service offers many opportunities for staff. Our health service has a focus on caring for clients and for staff. It offers flexible work hours, childcare opportunities, training and educational support. Full time, part time and casual work is available. Self rostering is practised in all areas. Individual orientation programs and preceptors are offered in each area to assist you in settling in to your new workplace. We foster a supportive and learning environment for staff by offering study days, development opportunities for those wishing to progress to other positions and scholarships in various areas.

A reconnect program for nurses who have been away from the workforce is strongly supported within the hospital. We also offer programs for Trainee Enrolled Nurses and New Graduate programs for newly Registered Nurses. Once again, flexible working hours and great educational opportunities are offered with these programs.

An Undergraduate Program has commenced to recruit and employ second and third year undergraduate nursing students to work as assistants in nursing on a casual basis. The model of care and care delivery processes in many wards have therefore changed to accommodate the undergraduate employee. Many wards have moved to team nursing to improve outcomes and facilitate the employment of the new employees.

Assistants in Nursing Certificate III staff are employed in select wards at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital to enhance care delivery models in these areas. This new and exciting project has the scope of improving care delivered to patients and increasing staff retention and recruitment.
